Sample Weekday Page

The weekday pages have been carefully designed to provide teachers with space to plan how they are going to deliver their lessons (in the "strategies" section) as well as what will be taught (under "lesson content") Each week begins with a new strategy and then followed by examples on how this strategy can be applied across all disciplines. There are 240 such lesson prompts throughout the companion.

Other special features include an "On this day" in history, a daily personal reflection section and provision for notes

Sample Thinking Strategy Page

Good thinking does not happen automatically. It requires effort and it needs to be taught. Throughout the Innovative Teachers' Companion, 19 cognitive and collaborative thinking strategies are fully explained in an easy to read format. Throughout the week, examples of how the strategies can be used in the classroom appear at the top of each daily page. These examples cover all faculties and have been generated from actual lesson plans.

Sample Page of Bloom's Taxonomy

Used since 1956, Bloom’s Taxonomy is still a very useful taxonomy for categorising the level of abstraction of a question or task. The Innovative Teachers' Companion explains all 6 categories with process cues and examples of the 6 categories appearing at the top of daily pages.

As you can see from the adjacent contents page, the Innovative Teachers' Companion is more than just a companion - it is a valuable teaching and learning resource. The diverse literature has one major focus, encouraging higher order thinking in the classroom. The contents page allows easy reference to the strategies, literature, class rolls, assessment matrices and blackline masters.

Productive Pedagogies form part of the Education Queensland Department’s New Basics project.
The Innovative Teachers' Companion briefly explains the 20 productive pedagogy elements as well as describing how the teaching strategies can assist students meet these elements.
